Area targets can be created using 3D scanning technologies:
Matterport™ Pro2 3D camera is what our team uses to create highly accurate area targets. The downside to this product is that it's harder to use since it is a physical camera, and comes at a high price.
For an easy to use, cheap alternative, we suggest the Vuforia AT Creator mobile app. This app is free to download, very easy to use, and will create a good accurate area target. Exporting your scan is easy as you just swipe left on your scan to share.
tip
If you have issues with tracking, we suggest cleaning up the 3D model's geometry to be as accurate as possible. Remove high poly clusters for unneccesary objects, and remove any wonky extruding geometry for accuracy. Sometimes 2D planes such as walls will have added unneccesary geometry which can be removed and replaced with a flat plane inside Blender. We suggest avoiding placing assets near areas with windows and mirrors, since they're known to cause problems with tracking.
Importing Area Target into PVXR
Targets is a sidebar located on the main page, this is where you import your area targets. Click "create" and select area target. A page will appear asking for multiple files to be imported. Navigate to the folder exported from your scanning technolgy, every scanner should export a .XML .DAT and .GLB. The "Authoring Model File" can be a number of different file types, but at its root this file is the model which will be displayed in the scene editor--we recommend using the "navmesh.GLB".
Inside of the scene editor, under resources you can locate your area target and easily add it into your scene. When loaded you'll see the 3D model from your scan appear. ProViz only uses this element as tracking data and the 3D model will not be visible to users outside of the scene editor. If the area target is turned off, tracking functionality will also be turned off.
